The County is governed by an elected Board of County Commissioners (the "Board"), whose three members serve four-year terms and must live in the District which they represent. The Board may exercise only such powers as are conferred by the General Assembly of Maryland.
The County is administered under a line organizational method, with the County Administrator responsible for the general administration of County Government. The administration of the County is centralized with the County Administrator responsible for overseeing the financial planning, annual budget process, personnel management, and direction and management of operations within the organization.
The executive offices of the County are located at the Frederick A. Thayer III Courthouse, 203 South Fourth Street, Room 207, Oakland, Maryland 21550. The County's central telephone number is (301) 334-8970.
The Board of County Commissioners meet in Public Session every Tuesday at 9:00 AM and on Thursdays in Administrative Session.

Dennis G. "Denny" Glotfelty , Chairman
Commissioner Glotfelty was
elected for his first term in 2006 as Garrett County Commissioner.
He is a lifelong resident of the McHenry area.
Mr. Glotfelty is a graduate of Garrett County Northern High School and has
owned and operated the Double G Campground for 30 years.

Ernest J. Gregg, Commissioner
Mr.
Gregg was born and raised on a farm in Masontown, Preston County, West Virginia. After graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in pharmacy Mr. Gregg established Gregg’s Pharmacy in Oakland,
Maryland where he has been the pharmacist for 40 years.
He also established the Renaissance Driving School,
which are divisions of Gregg’s Inc., where he serves as president.

Gregg has been elected as a Garrett County Commissioner for 6 terms.
He is the longest serving county commissioner in the history of Garrett County.
He
is a very active member of several civic and professional organizations including the Oakland-Mt. Lake Park Lions Club, Southern Garrett Athletic Association, the Board of Directors of the Garrett County Historical Society, and the Mtn. Laurel
Medical Center.
