Mutual Aid to Oakland on a Working House Fire

Engine 23, Tanker 26, and Utility 28 responded to the 4100 block of Garrett Highway mutual aid to Oakland on a structure fire. Assistant Chief 40 and Lieutenant 40 arrived on scene and advised a working house fire. Crews from 20 were assigned to assist in fire attack, water operation, and overhaul. After 1 1/2 hours of fire attack the fire was deemed under control by command. Personnel then worked on overhaul, and clean up. Crews from company 20 cleared the scene after 3 hours.

Fatal MVC on Maryland Highway

Units from Deer Park VFD, Oakland VFD, and Southern Rescue Squad were alerted to Maryland Highway at Leon White Rd. for a MVC with entrapment. Engine 22 and Utilty 28 arrived on scene to find two vehicles head on with entrapment in both vehicles. Assistant Chief 20 (C. Collins) advised Garrett Central to start Oakland VFD for assistance. Engine/Rescue 43 and Utility 48 responded to assist. One patient was extricated and transported to Garrett Memorial Hospital by Southern Rescue Squad. The second patient was pronounced dead on the scene by Maryland Forensic Investigator (FI-9). The Garrett County Sheriffs Office is investigating the 18:45 incident.
