Airport Improvement Project

Terminal Building Project Update

Garrett County Airport is a General Aviation Airport surrounded by the scenic mountains of Western Maryland and is the highest airport in Maryland. It enhances the region’s tourist industry and provides emergency air service evacuations and landing facilities for General Aviation.

Over the past few years, there have been many projects and changes occurring at the Airport.  These include the extension of the runway to 5000 ft, the construction of a new terminal building as well as new T-Hangars.  2007 was a big year for the Airport with the completion of the majority of these projects.  The runway was completed and is now being used on a regular basis.  The extension to the now 5000 feet allows for larger aircraft to land.  The terminal building is now completed as well and offers a comfortable place for pilots to develop their flight plans and relax after their flight.  The new T-Hangars are up and fully occupied.  The first stages of planning are currently being made to construct another T-Hangar building in the near future.

The airport is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and features one runway 27 and 9, 75 feet wide with PAPI’s and REILs.  It is operated by employees of the Garrett County Government.  Services provided at the airport include Jet A with additives, 100 LL, oil, tie down space, pilot supplies and rental car services.

The staff at the Garrett County Airport invites the public to stop and see the changes and improvements that have been made.
