GARRETT COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES BOARD – 4 Positions – Community Representative
 
The GC Social Services Board is composed of nine (9) members appointed by the GC Commissioners and one (1) ex-officio member (County Commissioner).  Three (3) Year Terms
 
A primary duty of the GC Social Services Board is to be informed on Department activities, advise the Local Director and the Secretary of the State DHR as to the application of the State policies and procedures, communicate information on objectives, policies, programs and concerns, review periodic local evaluations, consult with the Local Director for implementation of recommendations that may result from evaluations, review the annual report by the Local Director, transmit changes in policies or procedures to DHR and to the GC Commissioners, consult with the Local Director with respect to any new services that might be instituted by the Department, meet with the Secretary of DHR periodically, establish and maintain effective liaison with the GC Commissioners, serve as the advocate in conjunction with the State for programs, suggest and support private, State, and Federal grant sources for social programs.

GARRETT COUNTY LOCAL MANAGEMENT BOARD – 1 Position – Commissioner Representative
 
The GC Local Management Board is composed of fourteen (14) members.  Seven (7) members are permanent by office and seven (7) members are appointed by the GC Commissioners for a Three (3) Year Term.
 
A primary duty of the Garrett County Local Management Board is charged with planning, coordinating, funding, and monitoring interagency services to children, youth, and families.  The purpose of this corporation is to promote a stable, safe, healthy environment for all children and families, thereby increasing self-sufficiency and family preservation.

GARRETT COUNTY PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT APPEALS BOARD – 1 Position - Full Member
  
The Garrett County Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board is composed of three (3) regular members plus one (1)alternate with 5-year term limits – Appointed by the Governor. 
 
In accordance with Tax Property Article § 3-103 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the Board of County Commissioners will submit a list of three (3) nominations for each vacancy for the Governor’s consideration in making these appointments.  Interested individuals in serving on the Garrett County Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board are asked to contact the Board of County Commissioners for consideration of appointment. 
 
A primary duty of the GC Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board is review property tax assessment appeals.
 
Note:  Opinions previously issued by the State Ethics Commission, which provide that members of local property tax assessment boards, may not be actively engaged in real estate sales or appraisal.

ADULT GUARDIANSHIP REVIEW BOARD – GC – 1 Position – Local Citizen Rep.
 

The Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board is comprised of 9 members mandated by the State (attorney rep., a local non-profit Social Services agency professional rep., a physician and psychiatrist, two local citizen rep., a rep. from the local Office on Aging, public health nurse, a GC Department of Social Services rep.).  Three-year term limits
 
The primary duty of the Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board shall be to safeguard the welfare of persons with disabilities.  The Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board reviews guardianship cases and makes recommendations to the Court to either continue, modify, or terminate guardianship of the person.
