LAND RECLAMATION COMMITTEE – GC – 1 Position – Local Citizen Rep.
 
The Land Reclamation Committee which began in 1967, studies, recommends, and approves procedures to reclaim, conserve, and replant land affected by open-pit coal mining in Maryland.  The Committee reviews mining and reclamation plans, progress reports, and final reports.  It establishes plans and procedures, as well as practical guidelines, for prompt and sufficient reclamation, conservation, and revegetation of all lands distributed by open-pit mining of bituminous coal within the State. 
 
The Committee is comprised of 13 members. 
The Governor appoints four (4) members to three-year terms:
  • Two (2) mining industry representatives, appointed with Senate advice and consent;
  • One (1) Allegany County Planning and Zoning Commission member, recommended by the Allegany County Board of County Commissioners and appointment with Senate advice and consent;
  • One (1) Garrett County Planning Commission member, recommended by the Garrett County Board of County Commissioners and appointed with House of Delegates advice and consent. 
The Secretary of Natural Resources appoints three (3) members to serve three-year terms
The Secretary of the Environment appoints four (4) members and names the Chair
The Soil Conservation Districts of Allegany and Garrett County each are represented

ADULT GUARDIANSHIP REVIEW BOARD – GC – 1 Position – Local Citizen Rep.
 
The Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board is comprised of 9 members mandated by the State (attorney rep., a local non-profit Social Services agency professional rep., a physician and psychiatrist, two local citizen rep., a rep. from the local Office on Aging, public health nurse, a GC Department of Social Services rep.).  Three-year term limits
 
The primary duty of the Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board shall be to safeguard the welfare of persons with disabilities.  The Garrett County Adult Guardianship Review Board reviews guardianship cases and makes recommendations to the Court to either continue, modify, or terminate guardianship of the person.
