The Garrett County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling announces that the 2016 Residential Refuse Permits will be available beginning October 1st, 2015. The new permits will be valid from the date of purchase through the end of 2016.
New this year, the permits will utilize a radio frequency identification system (RFID) that will allow the permit to be scanned for validity at each site. This system will allow customers to utilize the same permit for as long as they own the vehicle that it is originally placed on provided they pay the annual fee. The fee is currently $50.00 per year. The RFID system will make replacing a permit much simpler. If a customer requires a replacement permit due to trading a vehicle, loss of a windshield, or an accident, they will be able to do so with a phone call or e-mail to the Landfill office. The RFID will allow a permit to be switched off electronically so that customers will no longer need to return the old permit for a replacement. Customers should also be aware that the new permit will be placed in a new location on their vehicle at the top of the windshield on the passenger side. Details are provided on the receipt that is issued with the permit.
Purchasing online is the fastest way to renew and there is no additional charge for using your credit card online. A permit purchased online goes in the mail to you the next business day. To order your permit after October 1st sign into Citizen Connect at www.garrettcounty.org .
Residents can purchase their 2016 permit by mail or in person at the Landfill on Oakland Sang Run Road or the Garrett County tax office. The current fee is $50.00 and payment at either location can be made using cash, check, or money order.
Applications are not mailed out but will be available at all collection sites, online, the Grantsville Library, the Garrett County Tax Office, and the Landfill office by September 30th, 2015.
Purchasing early will help customers avoid lines and delays at the end of the year. If you need more information or have questions contact the Solid Waste & Recycling office at 301-387-0322.
