The Garrett County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling announces expanded services at the King’s Run Road Site.

The expansion of the King’s Run Road Refuse and Recycling site is nearly completed. The site improvements include better access from King’s Run Road and an improved office facility for the staff. The expansion will also provide several benefits for customers. The improved lighting and increased space will enhance safety and speed up service. The site is now the third full service site in Garrett County joining Grantsville and Weber Road. Effective immediately the Kings’ Run Road site will be accepting additional recyclables to include magazines, office paper, electronics, oil, anti-freeze and oil filters. Customers are encouraged to make full use of the new services as part of their next visit to King’s Run. Recycling is good for the environment, saves valuable landfill space, and helps Garrett County meet recycling goals set by the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Staff from the Landfill were able to perform much of the work at King’s Run resulting in significant savings to taxpayer’s. The site preparation, storm water structures and utilities were all done in house. Paving was completed by the Garrett County Roads Department resulting in additional savings. MDE  provided the equipment for the oil & antifreeze station as well as a grant to cover the cost of the rain shelter over the station. Garrett County Solid Waste & Recycling future plans include upgrading the Bumble Bee Road site and the Landfill to full service by June of 2013.
