Be Smart – Do Your Part – Tarp
Spring cleaning is really getting underway and that means increased loads of debris headed for the Garrett County Landfill. Solid Waste and Recycling is reminding citizens that hauling debris to the Landfill requires that your load be tarped to minimize the chance of litter or bulky items blowing off of your load. Litter is unsightly and the loss of large items could cause property damage or personal injuries. Hauling debris without a tarp and littering are separate violations that can lead to unnecessary fines and court costs for you or your company. Maximum fines are $1,000.00.
In an effort to be sure that loads are being tarped, staff at the landfill will be cooperating with the Garrett County Sheriff’s office and reporting drivers that arrive with loads that are not tarped.
Citizens are asked to do their part to improve the environment where we live by tarping their load and reminding others of this requirement. If you have questions or need more information please contact Garrett County Solid Waste at 301-387-0322 or e-mail dwbaker@garrettcounty.org.
