PRESS RELEASE - TOLL FREE INFORMATION LINE
The Director of Garrett County Emergency Management, John Frank, advises that all residents remain indoors during the current extreme cold weather event.   A toll-free information phone line has been established for citizens, please call 1-866-254-6184.  This line has been established for non-life threatening situations.   In the event of an emergency please call 9-1-1. 

 

GENERATOR USAGE
Never use a portable generator inside the house or in an enclosed garage in the event of a power outage.  Ensure proper generator is selected and installed by a qualified electrician.  When operating a generator, the power coming into the home should always be disconnected.  Otherwise, power from the generator could be sent back onto the utility lines, creating a hazardous situation for utility lines, creating a hazardous situation for utility workers.  Information on proper generator installation and operation, along with operator warnings can be found at: www.firstenergycorp.com/content/customers/help/safety/using_backup_generators.html#installgenerator
