Agricultural Tire Recycling

The Garrett County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling announces that there will be a second opportunity for additional agricultural tire recycling beginning Monday February 3, 2014.  Collection boxes will be placed at the Garrett County Landfill, Sam’s Agway in Oakland, Grantsville Ag Service, and the Oakland Southern States. The program will last until March 31st, 2014. Funding has been provided by the Maryland Department of Environment and the program is administered by Maryland Environmental Service.

Acceptable tires are tires used on Garrett County Maryland farms including tractor, truck and equipment tires. The tires will be accepted with rims or without. Significant mud, manure and water must be removed prior to delivery.

Participants should plan on bringing any help necessary to unload the tires with them. Participants will also be required to stack the tires into the containers to help maximize the number that can be recycled.

Tires can be dropped off during each location’s normal business hours and participants are required to check with store staff prior to unloading. It is important to remember that the store owners have volunteered to help with this effort and participants should make every effort to cooperate.
