Press Release - Recovery Efforts - Nov 2 10:30am

First Energy has been working diligently to reduce power outages throughout the County.   Current outages are at 45%, which is down from the 55% reported yesterday evening. 

Debris removal will continue throughout the day and into the evening.  Garrett County Roads Department, State Highway Administration, Department of Natural Resources and the National Guard have been working continuously to clear roadways. 

Four task force groups have been designated and deployed throughout the county.  Each task force consists of a supervisor and additional staff comprised of law enforcement, EMS, National Guard and saw teams.   These task forces will be gaining access and checking on the welfare of County residents. 

Citizens are encouraged to contact the Community Help Line for information and assistance with non-life threatening issues.  Please do not call 9-1-1 Communications for information on road conditions or electric status.

Special Alert to Citizens:
  • If you have power lines down that are connected to your home, please turn off the main breaker;
  • Generator Safety-any individual utilizing a generator at their residence MUST be sure to provide adequate ventilation.  Do Not use a generator in a attached garage or other gas powered device;
  • Please check on neighbors, especially senior citizens and people with special needs;
  • Make sure to check-on pets and livestock.

County managed shelters currently open at the following locations:
  • Southern Rescue Squad- 200 Baltimore Avenue; Mt. Lake Park;
  • Friendsville Volunteer Fire Department- Corner of Walnut Street & Park Street; Friendsville.
 
Note: Additional shelters will be opened as needed.
