May 6, 2019 Board of Garrett County Commissioners Public Meeting Summary

The Board of County Commissioners held its recent public meeting at the Garrett County courthouse on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. Paul Edwards served as Chairman. The following items were discussed:
 
  • Public, Administrative, and Executive Meeting Minutes were approved
  • County employees were recognized for the completion of Military Basic Training Completion
    • Nathan Ford – Army Reserve
    • Bradley Shaffer – Army National Guard
  • Proclamations were made to designate May as Foster Care Month and Emergency Medical Services Month
  • Garrett County Purchasing Department recommended a bid award in the amount of $123,380.00 for the Puzzley Run Production Well Construction
  • Garrett County Department of Financial Services gave an update on the Fiscal Year 2020 Garrett County Government Budget
    • The Fiscal Year 2020 requested budget has an approximate $10.5 million dollar shortfall encompassing the following:
      • A projected fund revenue shortfall of approximately $1.8 million
      • A requested operating expense shortfall of approximately $2.8 million
      • A requested capital expense shortfall of approximately $5.9 million
    • A public work session for the Fiscal Year 2020 budget was added on Monday, May 13, 2019 and will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Public Meeting Room at the Garrett County Courthouse. This meeting will be for the Board of County Commissioners to recommend methods to balance the Fiscal Year 2020 budget and is required per Maryland public meeting laws. The public is invited to attend but no public comments will be allowed.
  • A Public Hearing was held for the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development – Community Development Block Grant program. The following topics were reviewed and open for comment:
    • Housing Improvement Program
    • Establishment and Renovation of Crellin Senior Center
    • Progress Report on Parkwood Renovation Project
    • Review of Citizen Participation Plan and the Residential Anti-Displacement and Relocation Assistant
    • Public comments were allowed
The Board of Garrett County Commissioners next scheduled Public Work Session will be Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Garrett County Courthouse beginning at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend but no public comments will be allowed.
