The Board of Garrett County Commissioners will be attending a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the newly completed River Road Bridge also known as the Ralph M. Burnett Memorial Bridge on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
This bridge which is located near Grantsville replaces a one lane all timber box beam bridge that was irreparably damaged due to suspected over loading and closed in December 2013.
The new bridge is a one lane 84 foot galvanized pony truss that also has a cantilevered 5 foot walkway. The existing abutments were modified to accept the new structure however none of the hand cut stones from the original abutments were removed.
All work including removal of the timber bridge was completed by Garrett County Roads Department personnel with the assistance of Carl Belt Inc., providing crane services for setting the structural steel. The project was completed in 8 weeks.
