Revised Floodplain Management Ordinance - August 20, 2013

The Garrett County Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on August 20, 2013 at 4:15 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room, Room 209, 203 S. Fourth Street, Courthouse, Oakland, MD.  The purpose of the meeting is to review and take public comment on a proposal to update and re-adopt the County’s Floodplain Management Ordinance to assure compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program.
 
Pursuant to the Code of Federal Regulations – 44 C.F.R. Section 59.22, this action is necessary to update the County’s current Flood Management Regulations to reflect the adoption of a revised “Flood Insurance Study for Garrett County, Maryland and Incorporated Areas” effective October 2, 2013.  The update will include adoption of all accompanying updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) effective October 2, 2013 and amendments to the current Ordinance.
 
Local amendments include the designation of a Floodplain Administrator, specifying the duties and responsibilities for the administration of the regulations, specifying procedures for the variance process, adding new definitions and adopting the revised Flood Study and updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps.
 
Copies of the draft ordinance and updated Study and Mapping are available for review at the County Permits & Inspections Office, 2008 Maryland Highway, Suite 3, Mtn. Lake Park, MD, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. and at the County’s website, www.garrettcounty.org, under Planning and Land Development – Permits and Inspections.  Interested citizens are welcome to attend.
