Garrett County Brownfields

Brownfield Inventory
A brownfields inventory is a list of properties that meet the definition a brownfield – a property that may be contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. The inventory should include data such as ownership information, street address, and lot size.  This inventory helps a community plan for redevelopment opportunities and apply for grant funding. It’s important to keep a brownfields inventory updated regularly, which is why we need your assistance.  We are creating a brownfield inventory to create a map and list of priorities for future redevelopment grants. If you’re aware of any potential brownfields, let us know!

Examples of potential brownfield properties include, but is not limited to the following:
  • closed schools
  • former gas stations and auto repair facilities
  • former car dealerships that performed vehicle maintenance and repairs
  • former dry cleaners
  • closed factories
  • vacant warehouses
  • parking lots
  • former mills
  • abandoned railroads or former railroad switching yards
  • landfills
