New landfills provide space to bury refuse. Communities will need new landfill space when the landfill capacity is used. Landfills are necessary to manage our waste, but they do not solve the problem for all time. We will need to continue to be environmentally aware and conserve resources.

Waste brought to this facility is taken over a scale where a tipping fee of $50.00 per ton is collected. This tipping fee is among the lowest in the State of Maryland and went into effect on July 1, 2019. A separate fee is also charged for tires brought to the facility and is related to the size of the tire and whether or not the rims have been removed. There is no longer a fee at the landfill to dispose of mixed metals for recycling, effective June 11, 2012.
Effective July 1, 2019 tipping fees increased for several materials accepted at the County Landfill. https://www.garrettcounty.org/resources/solidwasterecycling/pdf/GC%20Tipping%20Fee%20Schedule%2C%2007-01-19.pdf
