Used Oil Filter Recycling Program

Last Updated on Sep 25, 2012 at 4:38pm | Solid Waste and Recycling
The Garrett County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling would like to invite Garrett County residents and businesses to participate in a new Pilot Recycling Program at the Weber Refuse & Recycling site.

Garrett County works with the Maryland Environmental Service (MES) who own and routinely schedule
pick-ups of the oil and anti-freeze that is collected in Garrett County.  And, now of course the containers that will collect & deliver the oil filters for recycling.

Jhirmane Parks and Jason Baer, Operation’s Managers at MES, saw that we had a real interest and need, here in Garrett County.  They wasted no time in helping Kim Madigan, Recycling Coordinator, in setting up the new pilot program for recycling oil filters.

Starting immediately, used oil filters will be accepted for recycling during the hours of Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 Noon – 6:00 p.m., at the Weber Refuse & Recycling site located at 10180 Garrett Highway, Oakland, Maryland  21550.

Used oil filter recycling is available to Garrett County residents and businesses free-of-charge.  The collection containers for the filters are under the shelter with the oil and Anti-freeze collection containers.  If you require assistance, please ask a site attendant.

A second or third location for oil filter recycling may be coming to a site near you soon; dependent upon customer usage.

A residential disposal permit is not required to participate in this program or any other recycling program in Garrett County.

If you have any questions regarding the free recycling programs in Garrett County, please contact Kimberly Madigan, Recycling Coordinator at 301 387 0322 or email [email protected].
