North Branch Potomac River Watershed
 
The Upper North Branch Potomac River Watershed (headwaters to confluence with the Savage River) is approximately 67,252 acres, with 67,222 acres (99% of the total watershed) located in southwestern Garrett County.
 
The North Branch Potomac River originates at the Fairfax Stone in West Virginia and flows notheast forming the southwest boundary of Garrett County, Maryland.  The North Branch Potomac River continues eastward along the southern border of Allegany County, Maryland.  The North Branch Potomac River joins the South Branch Potomac River east of Greenspring, West Virginia.  The Potomac River then flows into the Chesapeake Bay between Point Lookout, Maryland and Smith Point, Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay then flows to the Atlantic Ocean.
